arts and health practitioners reimagining person-centered care, free from systems of stigma, carcerality, and profit.

NeuroArts Productions is the first arts-presenting organization at the intersection of neuroscience, technology, and the arts. We implicate innovative and creative arts events to advocate for person-centered and science-integrated mental health treatment, to advance life-saving science communication, and to move beyond a one-size-fits-all paradigm for mental health treatment. Our projects span from gallery exhibitions to live performances by a wide variety of artists, typically focused on community members’ experiences with mental health, stigma, and navigating the trial-and-error treatment system.

PATH TO PRECISION

NeuroArts Productions presents Path to Precision, our invitation to reflect on lived experiences within the healthcare system in the United States and to envision a future of true person-centered care – precision healthcare. Exhibiting artists respond to two ideas: What is your experience navigating the mental healthcare and medical system in the United States? What is your vision of a world of person-centered healthcare, free from systems of stigma, profit, and carcerality? As you walk along the Path to Precision, you will encounter personal stories, artistic expressions of mental health, and reflections that challenge the one-size-fits-all treatment system. Each piece invites you to consider the need for a paradigm shift—one that recognizes the unique neurobiology, life experiences, and environments that shape individual mental health care needs.

FEATURED PROJECTS

all in your head
"All in Your Head" is a four-movement multimodal work that explores the trial-and-error mental health treatment system, the science of depression, and the inner landscapes of the brain, with visual art, dance, and live improvisation and composition.  The work challenges the idea that mental illness is “all in your head,” because that is exactly where we believe the focus should be in treatment: within the individual’s brain chemistry, circuitry, and holistic life experience – forming a patient’s unique reality that calls for unique treatment approaches.

“All in Your Head premiered on February 9th, 2024, at the University of Michigan Duderstadt Video Studio in Ann Arbor, MI, followed by a panel discussion moderated by NeuroArts founder Sasha Gusikhin and “All in Your Head” science advisor Lucas Tittle, including Dr. Guillaume Dumas, Dr. Xiaosi Gu, Dr. Paul Jenkins, Hannah Becker and Molly Jones.
